Here is my first attempt as I collect materials for the back yard one.

Had fun doing this with the kids :D

I also made an instructable for it.

Really nothing much just a simple unit. But was fun to actual do something rather than read and dream. The kids wont let me eat the gold fish though :)

Can't see an air stone. Can the fish get enough o2.

Maybe I need to think about this. The water is poured on the rocks from a height so o2 enters here. IT also filters through the rocks. Flows back into tank from a little height. Only a couple of fish so maybe enough. How can I tell if enough or not? (Other than fish dying)

Does you pump have an air injector. Most of the aquarium pumps allow air to be sucked in through a tube. I have air stones so I dial mine back, leaving a fine jet of air just in case the air pump fails. Don't know the min amount of o2 for fish. They seem happier when they get lots.

Extra air is good, also helps to leave an air gap so the ammonia doesn't build up underneath too.

Hi Gypsy - glad you found the guys with the similar systems :) Although the basic principals are all the same the smaller systems have their own challenges.
