Hi,
I have about 19 soft shell crab modules that would make an excellent aquaponics growing system.
Each module measures 1950mm long by 540mm wide......and each one contains 18 square pots. The modules could be used with the pots or without.
They are suited to use with clay pebbles (with continuous flow or flood and drain watering).....or vermiculite or coco coir......on intermittent watering through a seconds timer.
The modules could be supported by a framework made from aluminium (as in the picture), steel, timber or cement blocks.
These modules are very versatile. Used in conjunction with the buckets (and set up for flood and drain), they would even be self-cleaning.
The best part is the price......just $20.00 per module (including 18 buckets).
The aluminium stand is not for sale - for illustrative purposes only.
First in, best dressed......to be collected from Bundamba (near Ipswich).

Must know the same supplier Gary? I just used mine with gravel and hydroton and used 90mm to hook it all up underneath. BTW the square pots make good pot plants. The 6 beds run 12 metres along the side of the shed and just have the one Mega syphon on the end which drops into the sump. FTs are inside the shed and the black drum at the end is the swirl filter ( now relocated )

We have 19 of them. I've PM'd you with my phone number.
Chainsaw.....you and MalcolmC have done a great job of utilising these modules to good effect......and I love you work on mega-syphons.
As your photos illustrate, the width of these modules makes them ideal for edge grow beds (like along the sides of sheds, etc).....or you can create a double row of them.
Thanks.....Gary

Looks awesome chainsaw. Those beds are only 160mm deep too which makes the growth you are having really interesting. Well done mate!

Perhaps just cut some plastic sheet to fit the size into the recess on the lip, then drill the holes in it for the plant spacing.

Traveling distance is way too far for me being down here in Melbourne,
Otherwise I'd snaffle a couple.....they look good.....& are as cheap as chips.

Hi Gary,
Very very tempting, Wondering if its worth the mission from Sydney to come and pick them up. Do they stack together well, as I'm wondering if they would stack and fit on roof racks and the pots in the boot?
Did you decide not to use them with your mega bin system?

Hi Ulli,
They do stack to a very limited extent....but a trailer would be a much better idea than a roof rack. If you take account of the fuel involved, it may actually be cheaper to transport them to Sydney as backloading.
I have five fibreglass 6' x 4' grow beds.....in addition to our four 5' diameter concrete raised beds. I can also build wicking beds any time I need more growing space than I've got.
It's a case of too many toys and too little time.

Hi Gary,
Know that one well (too many toys..) I seem to have too many projects!! AP being the latest one as well as building a chicken coop.
Whats backloading? is it a cheap form of getting stuff couriered around?

Hi,

Small transport operators quite often have primary contracts to deliver freight to particular destinations. If they don't have regular loads to bring them back home.....or, if there are many truckies and too little freight, the rates drop sharply.
Don't worry about going near the big transport companies, they'll charge you the listed rate and screw the sub-contractor.
When I was a kid, freight from anywhere in the eastern states to Western Australia commanded a fair price but backloading out of WA, barely covered the cost of fuel. Many operators "piggy-backed" home on the back of a mate's truck and they'd share the fuel cost.

I can tell you that if you dismantle them, they will stack inside each other. Stack all the pots inside each other as well. They will fit inside a 100 series Landcruiser. I had three inside mine but reckon 6 would fit (maybe more).

Gary,
Where did you purchase the soft shell crab modules (Growbeds) from? I live in NSW so transport may be a problem.

Hi Steve,
I bought them from Angus Cameron from Landmark Seafoods.....on the northside of Brisbane.....quite a few months ago. When I bought mine they were in sets of three and required a bit of work to transport and separate.
I only have two of them left......and I'm keeping those for the moment.

Hi,
I have two of these crab grow trays for sale.......each one comes with its own Qubelok aluminium stand.....and would make an excellent aquaponics growing system.
These modules are very versatile. Used in conjunction with the buckets (and set up for flood and drain), they would even be self-cleaning.
Price.......$60 each......$110 for two.
To be picked up from Bundamba.
