In the next few days I propose do go through and "prune" the membership list, cutting out firstly anyone who has not posted for 12 months.
This will free up some space on the server, and also clean the data base of some of those pesky early sign-ups.

Can anyone think of any reason why this should not be done ? Please let me know in the next few days before I take to the data base with a cyber axe.

Go for it, but I didn't realise that "prunes" could become members?
Sorry about that..... but I couldn't resist the chance!:)

Would it be possible to only close off those who haven't logged in for 12 months, not those who haven't posted in that time.

I know that I haven't posted much on here even though I've been a member for a long time. I'm guessing there would be members out there who enjoy the read but don't get involved in the discussions.

My 2.43 cents.

That is a good point headintheclouds.

I will have to take a good look at that and see if I can work out a way to prune only those who have not logged in rather than those who have not posted.
It is true. I see a lot of members who log in and have a read but never post. One person I can think of is in here almost daily but has never posted.

The forum is a great source of info for people. That is one of the reasons we want to have a cleanup......To try and keep it clean of any extraneous matter to make it a better information source.

You will notice that the membership number has dropped by 78 to be exact. I have pruned those who have not logged on for 365 days or more. Most of those people had never posted anything during their time as members.
Some had made a few posts in the first few days of their membership and have not logged on since.
A couple of names in the list brought back some memories.

We have a policy of keeping the membership list hidden in order to protect members from unwanted emails etc.

This action will assist in keeping the data base uncluttered.
