You could throw some goldies in. Or go net some yabbies. Get that bacteria working again.
Cod and golden like live food. The silvers are great and will eat anything you throw to them. Catfish are fun also.

I double checked the price for the bender and he confirmed that the price is $88 USD for any of the DY series benders including postage to Australia. A bargain I think! I just need to research the cost of 1 3/8" OD chainlink fence top rail tubing either 17 or 18 gage with pre swaged ends. Any hints on good suppliers of this?

Have you given any thought to using PVC instead of piping?

Just go for a drive to Brisbane and pick up some Jades.
You would think NSW and Qld were different countries. Stupid public servants yet again.
Jades and Silvers would have to be the most "harmless" fish imaginable.

Very tempting Murray - perhaps you could bring some when you visit :)
Yes have thought about irregation pipe for the grow tunels - pushed over star pickets driven into the ground.
We get some pretty fierce winds out here so I was thinking the steel frames might hold up better. Also might allow for wider tunnels.

please explain how cool water will help plant growth echidna and what levels to u class as cool water?
plants will uptake nutrients better with water temps warmer rather than cooler as a general rule of thumb.
When you've got high ambient temperatures, the cooler water (say 20 deg C) actually helps the plants to survive the heat and wilting.

Looking on the Queensland DPI web site under the aquaculture heading you will find a paragraph pertaining to non indigenous fish which states that fish may be kept as long as they lay above the Q100 water level. The Q100 is the 1 in 100 year flood level, myself living in emerald(which flooded this time last year)avoided innundation which means my property is obviously above the Q100.It also states that tanks for rearing said fish should be constructed in a way as to avoid damage in times of flood.

Echidna just looked at the local weather history and the average min. over the three winter months is 5oC and the average max. for the same peroid is in the low 20's so cant be any worse than Adelaide. Plus we will be using a poly tunnel so should be ok.

hi just a quick update Hamish and me have added over 100 yabbies which we caught in croppa creek last weekend. Before adding the yabbies we have had decent plant growth without any neitrents from fish or seasol etc.
will post pics we have some more time.

How are the yabbies going?
The aquafarm still has decent size silvers and cod fingerlings.

Hey there. The Yabbies are going ok. Seem to be producing enough nutrients for the few plants we have in the grow beds. Although when I think back to the growth I had with 100 hungry Jades I think they are the way to go. But the yabbies are free :)
