ok, Here is a question.
Murray, you said it is important not to spook the fish. How do you remove/catch the eating sized fish without disturbing every other fish?
For that matter, how do most people selectively remove fish from their tanks?
(oh yeah, hi all)

Actually Daniel, it is a good question, I really do not know the best method of doing catching them.
I catch a fish or two when I want one for the BBQ by using a fishing rod , a hook that has the barb filed off and a garden worm or two. My wife always has a good laugh to see me standing back 6 foot from the tank dangling the hapless worm in there. Playing boy games she says !!!!
I have found though that when I just hang a short line over the edge they often don't bite....I think it is because they can see me and quickly work out what I am up to.
Trouble is, with the hook and line method, I usually catch a number of smaller ones before I get the one I am after.
So the fish end up in a high state of spookiness !!!! But I get my man in the end.
If anyone knows a better way I am very willing to learn some new tricks. (Maybe a big net?)

Hi Murray,
Sorry, but you cracked me up, the thought of you fishing in a tank is so funny. Do you talk to the fish and tell them which one you want to catch? My kids think I've gone off the deep end I'm laughing so much.
Sorry.... serious now, (chuckle chuckle), after watching hours of fishing shows, I'm sure you can buy a net that will not harm the fish and is hard for the fish to see aswell. Check with any fish tackle shop.
Cheers, Happy fishing :D Anniefish

Hi,
I've thought about this, too.....and the net is the only answer that I can come up with.
Try to minimise this sort of contact with your fish. They don't like it and it will cause the fish to become stressed which could cause them to contract a disease.

Hi Y'all,
I don't know nuthin about Aussie fish, but Pappy noodles catfish in the river. You just kindda tickle the male catfish when he's a gaurdin' the nest. Ya gotta do it just so. When he bites your hand, you jes hang on and pull him out. If'n ya got big fish with teeth, ya might wanna wear a glove if you're sissy or sometin. Pappy's good. He's only got a few scars. Kin y'all do that to catch your fish?
Maybe you all think I'm making this up, or maybe y'all don't have good fish for noodlin'. But anyways, here's a link. She's got it pretty much right.

I believe you Gardengirl. My stepfather is from the UK and has told me many stories about "tickling" trout.
Difference seems to be he would lay on the bank of a stream and slide his hand under the belly of the trout and gently rub.
He says it was a bit like hypnotising choocks and the trout would basically go to sleep and he could then just gentle scoop it up and out of the creek.

Hi Mr. Silly,
I think ticklin the fish's belly would work for the big old carp we have here, but there not as good eatin as the catfish.
