If you get it, please let me know how it works out.

I ended up getting one of these:

http://www.soldsmart.com.au/l3.aspx?goods=PF0146BL

designed for cats and dogs - but with a simple modification it will be good for fish :)

Will have to wait for my fish to arrive and get big enough though :)

Cheers,
Hamish

Hi,

My only concern about using an automatic fish feeder is that, in cooler weather, it will continue to drop food even if the fish are not feeding quite so well.

Some fish.....particularly Jade perch....will continue to eat more than is good for them. They can eat more than their digestion systems will metabolise with the result that they can become gutshot.

I prefer to feed twice daily.....only feeding what the fish will eat within a few minutes. If I see uneaten food on the bottom of the tank, I cut back until it disappears.

Hi Gary - agreed - this is purely for the times I may need to go away for a couple of days and I would tend to use the feeder to give a few very small feeds rather than one big feed.

Hamish, did you end up getting the Fish Feeder ( Dog Feeder ) ... looking at it I can see it could be easily adapted to suit fish, so did it work?

Yes I did get one - have not used it yet as my fish are not yet eating enough in each sitting. I got it for the times I might be away for a few days.

I purchased one from the original post a week ago, major shops in the US sell the same model, so I am hoping it will work well.

I just need to get home to try it out *sigh*

I am looking for a feeder that can drop and not throw pellets. The dropped pellets need to be divided in their fall and be directed in two directions as I have two IBC's spaced about 2 1/2 feet apart. Looking for something <$75 US. Really need some recomendations! You guys who got some, kindly tell us how you like yours.

Yes. We are going through a name change and company structure so the greentoes is going.... I will have to find the original word doc and change the header on it and put the pdf up. Thanks for reminding me.

yes i bought one similar from someone else but found it was too consistant with feeding, if the fish weren't hungary they still got fed and i was getting a buildup of uneaten food and it was going off and dirtying the tank so i went back to manual feeding and when i go away i get one of the neighbors to feed for me.
Hope this helps

Terryd,
I will use them when I go away on vacation. My growing fish (75 of them) are always hungry so I'm not having a problem with overfeeding them. Wish I had known you had one and wasn't using it. I could have bought it off of you!
