Hi everyone!

I've been having trouble with my aquaponic system, I would like you to give me some ideas to deal with increment in CO2 concentration in the water .

The situation is: My system is located under a greenhouse so I shut the tanks to avoid losses of water by evaporation, but it increases the temperature in the water and the respiration rate, so the CO2 concentration increases too ... I use some air pumps, and the water pump moves the water constantly.. but the concentration of the CO2 still is too high.

I would be great if you could help me up with this :).

how exactly are you measuring CO2 and what are you using as a level being to high?

I would not have thought that CO2 would have been an issue. I would have thought that the movement of the bubbler in the water would of off gased the Co2 into the environment.

Have never really heard of CO2 being a problem in water except for where i causes high levels of pH swings.

Jacobo try putting your air pump outside the hot house closed up hot houses at different times of the day have varying amounts of co2 and oxygen[you may be pumping a consentration of co2 into the fish tank]

What is the d/o reading, measure the oxygen and post readings, if there is a lack of light you will find a drop in dissolved oxygen also, as competition from algea will use oxygen. post readings please. good luck.

Hi Jacobo,

....so I shut the tanks to avoid losses of water by evaporation....

I'm wondering how "shut" your system is. Carbon Dioxide shouldn't usually be an issue in most small aquaponics systems, however, if there is not adequate air exchange, it would be possible to experience elevated CO2 levels.
