I am looking at using the blue barrels for my system,
1- because I can get them cheap
2- Sustainabilty is achieved by using recycled products.

I have seen a few pictures of the systems, but I'm unsure of the best drainge system for them, also looking for simplicity,

The other question is I am looking for Ideas on creating current in the pond using the same pump with venturi air for aeration, I have seen some but more Ideas and opinions will assist me. Thanks

Wow, best thing i ever did, I already in one day played around with various siphon Idea's and got a bell siphon working beautiful in the shop going from bucket to bucket, I'm gonna take it home put some gold fish in the bottom bucket and some herbs in the top, I have made aeration by reducing the drain pipe from 25mm to 15mm just for a about 25mm then back up to 25mm pipe again drilling a small hole in the 15 mm pipe then continuing the drain pipe into the bottom of the fish bucket with an elbow on the end to create a circular current with air every time it dumps, I still want to play around with ideas to see if I can create a way to have a timed pump system so I don't have the pump running 24/7. if I turn the pump off at any time it will leave the grow bed full of water, is this a bad thing?

Hi,

If you want to see blue barrel aquaponics as an art form (and a very functional one), take a look at Travis Hughey's Barrelponics (http://www.fastonline.org/component/option,com_gallery2/Itemid,41/?g2_view=keyalbum.KeywordAlbum&g2_keyword=barrelponics) system. He's built many such systems around the world.
