Hot Hot Hot the temperature has risen I went out to check water and have decided to stop everything at the moment. We had a hot day yesterday about 40c today it is worse so the descision to halt was not that hard. High air temp equates to hotter water temp i broke my last thermometer today (clumsy so have to go to town to get a new one) air temp is 43c but water is warm to feel so transfer of temp from air is noticable.
I am going to collect hay bales to insulate sides of tank and open sides of shed to get more air flow through the area,am also looking for an old swampy air con locally (people change often out here might get lucky). I will have to rethink position of tank to get airflow and has anyone got any ideas on tank lid insulation?, any suggestions would be greatly accepted has anyone had to deal with high temps if so what did you do to overcome them appart from throwing copious amounts of ice into the tank.

Doug,
I would not worry a real lot unless you have trout.
We get some pretty hot days, a week or two at 35 plus where I live west of Brisbane. Last summer my water temp did not go above 28 even with the hot days. Pumping through the grow beds at night brings the temp down. I do not know how big your tank is but I have 2000 ltr tank. The bigger the volume of water the slower the temp will swing up or down.
All the things you have expressed will help. The best one is the air flow through and cover the tank with a sheet of styrene foam or similar. Or even a piece of plywood will help.
If you have trout I imagine you would be in difficulty anyway this time of year.
