hi Guys,
Thanks for the welcome and screening. Its a great forum.
I am in Euroa, North East Vic, and just starting out. Slab is poured, benches made, shed structure due next week.
I have ordered a 1500 litre fibreglass tank and 2 growbeds approx 150 litres each
I need some help with a pump. Originally I was looking at a 12 volt system with solar charge, but a pump supplier tells me I need 240 volt for the sustained flood and drain operation.
Gary, I would like to know more about your system, or any other suggestions about pump brand/ size/ flow/ wattage.
Stage 1 pic attached.
Any operating systems in north east Victoria?
cheers

Hi Notable,

Welcome aboard.

You've made the right decision about 12 volt pumps. As much as they seem like a great idea (and they are a great power failure backup), they come second to a 240 volt pump for general reliability.

I use small submersible pond pumps. The brand is RIO and the one that I use on my 1000 litre system has a capacity of 6500 litres per hour at 0 head (RIO 26HF). It is 110 watts.

I love that slab.....a sure sign that some serious fish raising is on the horizon.

Thanks Gary
Its a big project, but I am enjoying the journey
Progress so far:
Shed frames to be erected this weekend
Fibreglass tank and 2 growbeds on order from a local manufacturer, more info later.
2 benches have been scrounged from a local plant nursery, currently being painted and strengthened.
Now, a recommendation to all newbies:
Today I visited Fishfood in Sunbury and was most impressed. Milne has a fully working system with healthy SP's and trout, and the most magnificent crops growing in a range of media. Apart from the usual greens, carrots about 450mm high, a lemon tree are two that took my eye. A system that just appears to flourish in a suburban backyard, and its well worth a look. I should add that Milne is an excellent reference and can answer your questions in a practical way. Thanks for the tour today M, and I look forward to an ongoing sharing of ideas

Hi Notable,

You're right....FF's system is an excellent example of what can be achieved using recycled materials.

Of course, you've no doubt learned that FF is a highly accomplished dump-thumper. The stuff that he manages to get his hands on would make any backyard farmer's head turn.

We're looking forward to seeing the pictures of your new system as it undfolds.
