Ok a concern of mine is if you use anything non food grade as the growbed would the chemicals in the growbed leech into the fish and plants which in turn end up in your body if you eat the plants/fish?

Like no t everyone can afford food grade growing bins and those rubbermaid hard black bins that cost something like $200 CDN a bin on the larger ones.

I'm concerned about transfer of chemicals to the fruit or plant that we consume. Any biologists and chemists here able to explain/check on this with some back up science/links on their reference from reputable sources (ie. a few universaties and such). Thanks.

In some ways, I think you need to look at why some components are not food grade. From what I read, some items like the 500L water tanks you see are considered not food grade because of their porosity. This allows the tank to harbour bacteria, in drinking water, this is not a good thing but in an aquaponics system, it might be an advantage.

A good question though .....
