I understand that, but u have a pump in the water where the Duckweed is that pumps up into ur grow channels. your pump is below the level of Duckweed which allows u to pump out the water without getting the duckweed in it.

My system has the pump in the main tank that is pumping to the duckweed tank. The water has to reach a level in my duckweed tank, then when it reaches that level, it flows back into the tank thru a 25 mm flange in the side of the tank near the top. My issue is when it reaches that level, how do I stop it flowing in the main tank minus the duckweed. As I said earlier, I have tried putting 90% shade cloth around the flange hole with limited success. It does restrict the water flow back to the main tank a bit, so I was just wondering if there are any better ways of doing it. Gary looks like he is doing it successfully in the photos I have seen of his Duckweed Tank and I would be keen to find out what fittings he is using. He said something about meir and I do not have a clue what it is.

Mikkey don't you just need a standpipe connected to the flange? Open at the top of course to stop it forming a siphon.

From the look of it that's what FF has there. No pump needed in the DW tank. As the water level rises in the tank the level in the open topped standpipe will rise and flow out through the flange. Once filled the DW tank water level would stay constant at the level of the flange. It will suck any sludge that has dropped to the bottom of the duckweed tank if your lucky.

Forum doesn't want to let me link to an image for some reason.

There is a diagram @ the address below if you care to put the dots back in

Thanks 4 that bubba. Have done that but have not got it open at the top. In my excitement I also forgot to mention that I am growing glass shrimp in the same tank as the duckweed and I am worried that they be sucked into the main tank.

Hi, I'm a newbie here, and I'm not sure if this is exactly the place to ask this, but what fish can I put in a tank with duckweed that WON'T eat it all up and will supply nutrients. Tilapia, guppies and goldfish are all a no go, I don't know what else to try.

thanks in advance :)

My Goldies didn't eat the Duckweed, or, if they did, they didn't eat much ...... I was always taking out the extra, drying it out, and then putting it in a blender with some water so that it would make worm food ...... if you blend it, the worms can process it much faster ....... if I had a large Duckweed harvesting system like Gary''s, I would have put it straight into the blender, but mine is small, so I have to save it up for a few weeks ;).

Forgot to mention, I bought a blender from the thrift store, specifically for blending my own fish foods, worm foods, and someday, BSFL foods ;)
