My wife loves romaine lettuce, so I started a bunch of different romaine varieties and they all do the same thing, grow up, fall over.

Anyone else growing romaine lettuce in a floating raft system? Butterhead, leaf, celery all do fine, but my romaine all looks like the attached picture.

Hi nwestwood,

Your celery look great, do the lettuce get enough light? If they are growing up to get light they might not grow hard enough to stand up. Then again the other lettuces do well, maybe one of those mysteries of life....

Yes, they get enough light. It's summer here and they get 18 hours a day. The head and leaf lettuce do well, the romain looks like it bolts from the day It's seeded.

Hi Neal,

We have a similar problem in warm weather. What you call Romaine we know as Cos. Hamish, one of our members, resolved the issue by treating them as picking lettuce. He just collected leaves from the plants whenever he wanted a salad.
