We are now fishless cycling, we have a few plants and and are dosing with Seasol daily, one cap a day. We are planning to do so for a 5 weeks, due to the fact we have booked a trip away for a week, and think introducing fish before we go away is a bit risky.

Will things run well for 5 weeks without fish?
Will the plants be ok on Seasol for that long?

Should we take the risk and introduce fish before we go away, we start our system on Sunday, so are only a few days in. Pictures to come.

The plants will do just fine on Seasol, In fact they will possibly do that well you may not get the fish :D. Just kidding, I know you will get the fish.
I woild be inclined to leave the fish until you get home.
What species are you going to run ?

Here some photo of our new system.

Our sump tank is dug partly into the ground, and then pumping back into the fish tank.
Gravity feed from fish tank to Grow beds.

Where the heck did you get those growbeds and tubs? Also how much did it cost you for those tubs? I'd love something like that here.

They are x fish tubs from fishing ships, made from LLDPE polyethylene. My father inlaw had them.

Hey,

Just wondering did your expanded clay pebbles float? and if so for how long did they float for?

I have a problem with mine, where its floating and so it would be unstable to plant anything.

I've searched around the forum looking for info about the floating and haven't found that much info. Only that ppl do state it does float but not for how long and how to help get it to sink

Any help would be AWESOME coz yeah thats my only hold up atm

Cheers!!!

I recently set up my system with the expanded clay. A few of them floated only for an hour or so.

We used 14mm scoria, so it did not float. I planted into it the next day.
