Hi Shane
My system has been up for 3 weeks and my results are spiking at the moment also
test results last night were
amo .25, Nitrite 2.0 to 5.0, Nitrate 1.0, PH 7.2 to 7.4
My Nitrate was 5 on Monday but has droped so it all must be doing its thing. My water temp in Sydney ranges between 10 and 13 oC at the moment.
I started the system with 6 gold fish straight away and two helpings of gunk from the fish bowl the the kids sacrifice fish in on a regular basis ( they are 4 and 5 and no matter what I do to the water they manage to kill them some how.)So there is plenty of goog bactieria in there that is now in the ap system. Added a little Humonia and in three weeks the system is well on its way. Hopefully it will settle down enough for fish this weekend.

Hi Shane,
Yes I use a 1100L cattle trough as the FT and some of Murray's 550L BG'S. I use a 3000L rainwater tanks as top up for the system.
I am putting trout in, should get them on the weekend.
I came home last night and I could see the bottom of the fish tank for the first time in almost 4 weeks. It went from clay yellow couldnt see the bottom in 600mm to 85% clear over night???? Anyway Im not arguing.
